Denim for Days

There is a lot of excitement surrounding denim fashion right now, especially with so many styles trending. From grungy to artsy to sexy and everything in between, its versatility makes it a must-have in any wardrobe. Check out these latest denim trends to add to your inventory.

Frayed Seams, Edges and Destruction
Distressed and destructed denim continues to cement its position in the fashion world using messy fraying to accent seams and edges and bring attention to hems.

Retro Blocking
Retro blocking with denim carries over from last season with a few additions. Various shades and hues of blue are pieced together in differing shapes and sizes to form unique, eye-catching patterns, giving a twist to otherwise plain pants and jackets.

The Search for the Perfect Jean

When you ask a woman, “what is the hardest thing to shop for,” more than likely her answer is “jeans.” This exact shopping dilemma is what inspired Beija-Flor designers Kathy and Emilie to bring women a jean that finally works with their natural bodies, rather than against them.

The key to finding a jean that really fits comes down to just three simple rules – finding the right pockets, rise and leg opening for your body. With more than six years of experience, Beija-Flor designers Kathy and Emilie have a secret formula that allows over 90 percent of women (with all different types of bodies) to find a jean that really fits! Take a look at some of the designers’ dos and don’ts when it comes to jean shopping:

• Go for midrise, having a slightly higher waistline (8 ½ inch) not only elongates your legs making you look instantly slimmer, but also gives you a sense of security that nothing is “hanging out.”

• Look for a jean that is composed of a “denim blend.” For example, our jeans are made with a Brazilian cotton, poly, and elastane blend.

Memory stretch. You will be thanking yourself later, when halfway through the day your jeans are still holding their shape!

• Find a jean with a contoured waist. All of Beija-Flor jeans’ are higher in the back giving you more coverage in the rear, and eliminating gaping in the waist.

• Focus on size; it’s just a number. Look to see where the jean hits you in rise, whether the pockets are flattering, and if they are comfortable.

• Stick to only one jean style. Branching out to a skinny leg or wide leg will instantly upgrade your wardrobe.

• Focus too much on trends. Stick to jeans that compliment your own personal style. Trends fade, style is eternal.

• Select heavy weight jeans. Look for a jean that can be worn year-round. Denim is timeless.

Styling the four Jeans Every Woman Needs:
1. Skinny – Don’t be afraid to have a skinny pair – or two – in your closet! They are great for creating a sleeker (and skinnier) look. Plus, they are the perfect jean to wear with heels, tucked into boots, or with ballet flats. We suggest our Nicole Skinny in Washed Oregon that will also give you an added butt lift.

2. Bootcut – Everyone’s favorite jean. This type of fit is a must-have to create that ultimate relaxed look for laid-back days. To dress it up, wear with heels or over boots – just make sure they are long enough. We suggest our miracle bootcut, the Jennifer bootcut jean, in Oregon.

3. Straight & Ankle – The ultimate fit to wear with flats. A dark straight leg always flatters and lengthens, too. We suggest our Audrey ankle jean in Oregon.

4. Wide-Leg & Trouser – This fit is great to wear on Casual Fridays or out on the town with your girlfriends. While it is the trendiest fit, don’t be afraid to experiment – it can dress up any outfit instantly! Tuck in a shirt and effortlessly create the ultimate hourglass silhouette. You will instantly show off your tiny waist. We suggest our Amanda trouser jean.

Icing on the Cake: “Bundle Up” for Greater Profits

TJReid2(I was inspired to do this article after visiting my daughter’s store, RUBY,  where I noticed how many little items she had tied together with ribbon as a “set.”  There were several bracelets together, panty packs of two, three or five, a package of three tees, etc.  The pricing was even numbered like $10, $20, etc. and as a shopper I could realize how quick and easy this choice could be. It seemed especially effective for the Valentine shopping season in progress.  The more I thought about it, the more I felt the need to share “bundling up” for better profits with each of you!)

All of us enjoy a sweet deal, by just like icing on the cake, it can be overdone.  Bundling is a delicate blend of ingredients that:

*Sweetens the deal for your customers
* Increases your average sale
* Boosts your employees’ productivity
*Reduces your risks

If you are considering bundling, ask yourself these questions:

1) What are some of the challenges shoppers face in buying clothing
Some folks are color blind or have no fashion sense. They are in a hurry and forget to buy the related purchases they need. They long for help in making    decisions.  A bundle is already combined and ready – no choice.

2) What can I bundle together to make life easier for my customers?
Shoes and Handbags
Assorted Accessories that mix/match
Hosiery for the outfit
Socks for the shoes
Tees with Jeans
Tops w/suits
Slippers with robes
Panties with bras
7 panties (one for each day)
Basic tees set (red, black, white)
Lip gloss and mirror
Gloves & scarf
Anything that makes sense together or fills a need!

3) What benefits would buyers gain from bundles?
Customers would save time, whether shopping for themselves or a gift, they would find things easier. A bundle usually adds more versatility and functionality to a wardrobe by mixing and matching. Shoppers usually think a bundle is a better deal and they feel good about saving.

4) What benefit would the retailer gain from this?
Total sales should increase. Multiples units would be sold. Customers would appreciate the creativity and novelty of the combination.
Employee’s productivity should go up because they will generate more sales dollars per customer.

Look around, what goes together as the perfect bundle in your store?
