Michael McDonald to Headline 2010 ICON Honors

MICHAEL_MCDONALD_1Five-time Grammy winning artist Michael McDonald will dazzle those in attendance at the inaugural ICON HONORS awards celebration on July 17. The American pop music fixture and creator of hits such as “I Keep Forgettin’,” and “Yah Mo B There,” promises to give a performance that will capture the emotions and excitement of hundreds of gift, home furnishings and area rug industry professionals attending the HONORS celebration.

Following McDonald’s performance, there will be a landmark keynote address by a celebrated retailer and the anticipated awards presentation, honoring retailers, product manufactures, sales agencies in 18 individual categories.

Building 2 WestWing Celebrates Second Summer Market, Strengthens Union with Building 2

In Building 2 and 2 WestWing, the Gift and Home Accents collections unite to offer more than two million square feet of product rich in diversity, quality and opportunity. AmericasMart is showcasing this complete presentation by expanding the corridor on floor 6 in Building 2 to advance the visibility, accessibility and synergy between Building 2 and 2 WestWing. With this, several new showrooms on floor 6 in Building 2 will take new, enlivened spaces. Dave Savula Named Executive Vice President of Gift & Home Leasing

DSavulaLowRes_100David Savula has been named executive vice president in charge of AmericasMart Home and Gift leasing for all permanent showroom facilities in Buildings One, Two and Two WestWing, according to Jeffrey L. Portman, Sr., president and chief operating officer of AmericasMart Atlanta and its AMC, Inc. parent entity.

Savula’s promotion, approved by action of the AMC Board on April 27, follows a seven-year tenure as senior vice president in charge of AmericasMart’s Home showroom leasing, which has grown significantly under his leadership. Savula’s career spans more than 15 years in the home and gift industry, including sales and leasing positions in a North Carolina wholesale marketplace.

James (Jim) Douglas Glover Named ICON Honors Life Achievement Award Recipient

Glover JimJames Douglas Glover has been named the first ICON HONORS Life Achievement award recipient by unanimous vote of the ICON executive committee and with the full endorsement of ICON partners Gift & Home Trade Association (GHTA), HFN and AmericasMart Atlanta.

 The 2010 Life Achievement Award will be conferred officially at the inaugural ICON HONORS event scheduled for Saturday, July 17 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis in conjunction with the July Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market and Atlanta International Area Rug Market. Glover will be honored posthumously at that time.

ICON Honors Call For Entries Now Open on New Website

  • Innovation (for technology applications to achieve market share, product design, packaging design and sustainability and branding) 
  • Contribution (for independent retail community trailblazer impact/influence, cause-related product impact/influence and industry-building impact/influence and community betterment/improvement achievements)
  • Achievement (for top newcomer recognition, individual professional accomplishment, collective business accomplishment and life accomplishment)

Competition for the Honors will be by individual submission in the Innovation and Contribution categories, and by independent nomination in the Achievement category—with the potential for up to 27 awards conferred.

Members of the home and gift industry are eligible as:

  • Retailers
  • Manufacturers
  • Sales Agencies
  • Service Providers /Affiliates
